Romantic tension is the electricity between two characters before they can safely name what is happening. It is not simply attraction, although attraction helps. It is desire plus resistance: a reason they want each other, a reason they cannot quite act on it, and enough emotional truth that readers are willing to scream into a cushion over a hand brushing a sleeve.

For low-to-no spice readers, this is especially good news. You do not need explicit scenes for a romance to have heat. You need stakes, timing and two people with something to lose.
